A Jina is a being who has attained the highest level of spiritual enlightenment. The Jina stands in the posture of body abandonment (kayotsarga). This is an austere form of meditation. The Jina’s nakedness illustrates his past renunciation of earthly material comforts.
Jinas are considered prophets of Jainism, one of the ancient religions of India, centred around non-violence, equality, and self-control.
