The introduction of the Buddhism purgatory to China changed the Chinese vision of the afterlife. How did the Chinese imagine about the world after death before Buddhism came to China? Did the dead go to the Yellow Spring or did they go to Mount Tai? Who ruled the world of the dead? This talk will try to answer these questions and delineate the ancient Chinese afterlife.
未知的国度：古代中国人的冥界观
苏瑞隆副教授，新加坡国立大学中文系
佛教炼狱之说传入中国之后，改变了中国人的冥界观。然而没有受到佛教影响之前的中国人如何想象死后的世界？人死后归黄泉？人死后归泰山？ 谁是冥界的主宰者？ 本讲将试图回答这些问题，并描述古中国复杂的冥界观。
