In this installment of Asian Culture & Music Series, dive into a thousand years of traditional Asian music, dance, and drama with performances, workshops, and evening concerts.

Highlights include award-winning Korean percussion ensemble Noreum Machi, Makgeolli sampling and kimbap workshops.

Drum Duet by SYJ Dance Project

Jump into traditional Korea with this dynamic small drum (“sogo”) performance by dance duo Son Yu Joung and Yeon Hae Jin.


K-Waves by Noreum Machi
Friday, 8 to 9pm

Immerse yourself in the exquisite vocals, thunderous percussion, raucous processions, and lavish yet elegant costumes of samulnori percussion by the South Korean group Noreum Machi.

Samulnori groups use four traditional percussion instruments to play music based on rhythms inspired by the sounds of nature.

About Noreum Machi
One of the most famous Korean traditional percussion bands, Noreum Machi brings together singing and powerful percussion with a modern approach. Established in 1993 with the slogan, “New Wave Korean Music Group”, the ensemble performs internationally, and at many prestigious festivals, offering audiences around the world a touching and dynamic taste of Korean sound.

Makgeolli Appreciation Workshop by Geonbae Korean Wine

Friday, 7 to 7.30pm

Sample different wines and learn about the significance of makgeolli in Korean culture. End (or start!) your night by creating your own makgeolli lychee cocktail.

Join us for an afternoon of Seoul-cool festivities! Noreum Machi returns with a final performance, plus a Korean folk song workshop with performance. Get energised with spirited taekwondo that marries martial arts and K-pop music. Dress up in traditional Korean outfits, create an ancient Joseon handscroll, and curb your cravings at our food workshops and demonstrations! We’ll see you this Saturday, maj-ayo
